Dan finally took a much-deserved break to hike to the top of Baldy and across the ridge with his co-resident Steve and his dog Hank. If you wanted to, you could hike something like 25 miles all the way to Girdwood. Fortunately, they kept it to 7. The weather was perfect and the views were gorgeous. In the bottom right picture you can faintly see Mt. McKinley, located 135 miles as the crow flies from Anchorage (240 by car). On very clear days, it's visible from various parts of Anchorage and Eagle River. McKinley is the highest mountain in North America, but what makes it so spectacular is the way it towers above the rest of it's range and makes them look miniature in comparison.
